Basic Cadet Training
Basic Cadet Training (BCT) is a comprehensive 8-week program that serves as an introduction to Civil Air Patrol (CAP) for new cadets. The course is designed with the intent to take members of our youth and turn them into successful cadets. This is done by guiding them through their first achievement in the Cadet Program. BCT also serves as a new cadet’s introduction to military standards and military style training.
The programs schedule is designed around 8 weekly squadron meetings (Monday) and 2 Saturday training activities.
Those training days include:
Cadet Welcome Course – An overview of CAP and the Cadet Program
Wingman Course – An introduction to Character Development, CAP’s Core Values, and Safety.
Customs and Courtesies - An overview of military professionalism including proper greetings, reporting procedures, and proper flag etiquette.
CAP Uniforms – An overview of proper wear of US Air Force style uniforms by CAP cadets, including hands-on practice on proper assembly of the uniform. This ends with the cadet’s uniform being issued on their second Saturday activity.
Introduction to eServices - How to access and use eServices, CAP’s online database containing a member's training, promotions, awards, and testing access.
Cadet Physical Fitness Testing (CPFT) – An overview of the running and exercise elements of the CPFT, given twice during BCT, and the Active Cadet Fitness Program.
Drill and Ceremonies – An introduction to individual drill and squadron formations.
Warrior Spirit – An overview of the warrior mindset and how it can apply to all aspects of the cadet’s life.
After completion of BCT, the new cadet will be awarded the Major General John F. Curry Award, be promoted to the rank of Cadet Airman, and awarded their Lackland Cadet Squadron patch signifying the start of their cadet career.
